From Suicide & Murder To Salvation & Purpose

In late September 2022 I was on mission in the beautiful country of Rwanda with my brothers Ben Morgan & Mugisha Rukumani.

I was in the country for 10 days, and around half way through the mission, the Spirit of the Lord led us to a beautiful large lake.

We thought we were there mainly to relax and enjoy the views as it had been an intensive, glorious mission so far.

God’s plan was that I would end up baptising 7 people in the lake. It was absolutely glorious. I hadn’t experienced anything like it before in my 3 years since Jesus saved my life. It was truly an honour to baptise my brothers and sisters in Christ.

As the evening was coming in, we headed back to our car ready for the 3 hour drive back to Kigali. As we were loading our car, I noticed a woman walking towards where we were. She was carrying her baby on her back. Her head was down and she looked incredibly sorrowful.

I asked brother Ben if he could translate for me so I could talk to her. We went to her and we started to share about God’s love for her and her baby.

She was a woman of very few words. She was very closed to revealing any emotion, but it was clear she was living with immense heaviness.

We had been with her for over half an hour when she opened up to Ben. She shared with Ben that tonight, having been thrown out of her apartment and feeling totally helpless, she had walked to the lake with the intention of walking with her baby out in to the lake to kill then both.

I thank God and praise God for His divine act to use Ben and I to stop her doing the unthinkable.

The Lord asked me to bless her with some finances to allow her to begin rebuilding her life. He asked me to bless her with £107, the number God has used to connect up my entire life from the house I was born in to in 1977.

Ben exchanged phone numbers and we drov her to a neighbours home who had offered for her to sleep at.

A few days later whilst I’m still in Rwanda, the Lord speaks to me and says that on our final day He would like us to go back to the lake.

I was immediately thinking that it could be a spectacular end to the mission, and maybe I will be baptising many more people than the 7 when we first came.

Ben made contact with the 7 people I had baptised to let them know that we were coming back to the lake, in case they wanted to meet up with us again. Ben also messaged the woman to let her know.

We arrived early afternoon at the lake. To my surprise there were very people at the lake. I immediately knew that there wasn’t going to be a big finale of baptisms on my last day in Rwanda.

I looked at Ben and he seemed a bit deflated too.

The Lord spoke to me and said “Just relax, enjoy the location, this is how I’ve planned it.”

We relaxed and chatted to a few people on the lakeside. We shared God’s purpose for our life message that He had given through me on day 4/10 to some of the people we spoke to.

Around 45 minutes later, I turn around and I see the woman who was going to commit suicide walking towards us. Oh glory glory glory.

We started to talk, and she shared with us that she would like me to baptise her in the lake.

Shortly after I baptised our sister in Christ, and following her baptism we shared with her God’s purpose for her life.

I give God ALL the glory, praise and honour for saving our sister from killing herself and her baby in a lake, where days later she would be baptised and born-again with the Holy Spirit.
